About Mezcal El Rey Zapoteco Tobalá

El Rey Zapoteco Tobalá is made 100% with agave potatorum, commonly known as tobalá. This is a rare, and highly prized, type of wild agave which only grows at high altitudes in the state of Oaxaca, México.
Tobalá takes between 12 to 15 years to reach maturity for harvesting. The piña is relatively small and weights approximately 40 kilograms, yielding only one or two bottles of mezcal.
Unlike other varieties, Tobalá does not produce sprouts, relying exclusively on seeds to reproduce and enlisting the help of birds, bats – and now humans – to spread them.
